This past winter and into spring I found myself back in a familiar pattern of feeling uncertain…insecurities crept up, doubt crept in and my ‘second guesser’ archetype went into overdrive. I felt stuck, somewhat fearful and instead of fighting it, I changed course and surrendered to it.

I allowed myself to TRUST in the surrendering.

It wasn’t easy nor was it about being lazy or unmotivated, or lack of discipline.  At the deepest level, for me, is letting go of my fear.

Trusting myself, and trusting that even if decisions I do make doesn’t bring about the result or reaction I was hoping for, it’s okay.  It’s okay to let go of the disappointment, the harsh inner critic, and turn towards a trust in God/Higher Power that something might just be happening the way it is because something better is on the horizon.

That is the tricky part!

Because I like to KNOW, I like to know what to expect and I like to achieve goals and meet expectations.  It feels safe to count on outcomes, and it brings a rush of short-lived adrenaline but here is the thing – we are not in control, and yet we are safe even when in the unknown.

My inner being gets a little anxious even writing the word “unknown” but the beauty is learning the lesson of TRUST while taking action in faith – even in uncertain times and outcomes.

To move things forward in life you need to listen to your heart and determine what is most important to you, and from there make a decision – along with a cup of faith-filled action.

You may have to take a risk and dip your toe into uncertainty when an outcome can go one way or another.  You may feel vulnerable and exposed when you put an idea out there that could fail, be judged harshly, or lead to disappointment.

But the alternative – staying small and quiet, keeping uncertainty and indecisiveness as a cornerstone for you – leads to never making a decision about anything that is meaningful and has impact!

THIS DOES NOT KEEP YOU SAFE.

All it will do is keep you stuck…anxious…and feeling empty.

In a stuck pattern of “I always make the wrong decision”, “It’s not safe for me to make decisions”, “Things never turn out my way anyways”, “I’m not sure what the outcome will be” yada yada yada…could you look at it this way?

Could Anxiety Be Excitement In Disguise?

In one of Gabby Bernstein’s lectures she shared, “Anxiety is just excitement in disguise.” I loved that, because it made me see and feel the flip side of all the things I second guess when I feel indecisive about making a choice – allowing my fear to keep me small, contained and feeling safe but empty.

What would happen if I changed the way I thought about the uncertainty and the anxiety making impactful decisions creates, to focus on moving forward and trusting myself?

What if I could see that what I’m feeling as anxiety might actually be an undercurrent of vast excitement about the possibilities that making the decision could lead to, and the joy it could create?

What if I could shift my perception from one of feeling unsafe and unsure, to trusting that everything would unfold exactly as it was meant to?

What if VULNERABILITY was the path through fear and uncertainty?  What if feeling safe throughout your entire being no matter the outcome, was the lesson…the breakthrough?

What if?

I invite you to consider this avenue of thinking and feeling when looking at your insecurities, doubts and fears.  I know this runs deep for many of us, but this type of inward reflection and work has been (and continues to be) incredibly powerful.

Finding a way to bust through staying small and quiet as my insecurities, doubts and fear surface has been life changing for me, and has offered incredible joyful experiences I would never otherwise have had.

And while it does seem scary sometimes, especially the vulnerability part and fear of others’ judgment, if I really stop and think about what that feeling is deep down, it is excitement.

Not always knowing the answer or outcome is part of our soul’s journey and path to knowing our purpose, our profound capabilities and excitement!

So take a few minutes today and simply ask yourself, “What if?”
