What I have experienced and come to believe is how you show up for yourself is how the world shows up for you. The Universe is a mirror. So…what do you see?

I invite you to steal a glimpse of yourself in your compact. Smile deep into your pretty eyes and know you are so much more than curves and great hair. You also have an emotional and spiritual body and they need TLC too. It’s all part of our path to better health and genuine happiness.

Today I choose to share with you and help you explore the wonderful world of the chakras. They are the energy centers of our bodies. It’s no longer myth back actual fact that science is now understanding more and more about.  This stuff excites me because it adds another dimension to connecting to our souls and energizing our bodies so we can do the things we love with joy and zest running all the way down to the tips of our toes!

And we’ll discuss how nurturing the 2nd chakra can warm up your love life. Who doesn’t want more of that?

So, what is a chakra again?

Chakras are like spinning teacups that run from the top of your head to the base of your spine. There are 7. Each have their own color and relationship to your whole world.

In Indian thought, they are the spiritual centers of the body. They connect the body with the mind. Once you see the emotional meaning of each, you may have an ah-ha moment. For ex., if you have discomfort in a specific area, knowing the chakra system may uncover what’s going on with you emotionally. I love putting on my detective hat when helping clients solve their emotional root cause to their health issues! This is what my clients feel is the missing piece in them losing weight, gaining energy and truly finding happiness.

This stuff is so fascinating! Lean in. We’ll start at the base of the spine. See the red one in the picture above. That is the first chakra. Here we go.

 1: Root Chakra

Color: Red

Location: Base of the spine

Emotional Meaning: Financial independence, money, and food, as well as, tribal, safety and security. The root chakra grounds you. Naturally. It deals with survival, so of course it’s associated with food, relationships and money. If you have low back pain, it’s time to take a hard look at your finances. If you have hip pain, look at your relationships in your life.

Exercise: Breathing Squats

 2: Sacral Chakra

Color: Orange

Location: 2” below the belly button

Emotional Meaning: The sacral center deals with pleasure, creativity, and sexuality. Making art or babies are the same act of CREATION. If you feel blocked creatively or sexually, try the Cobra Yoga Pose, or drag yourself to art class.

Exercise: Cobra Yoga Pose

3: Solar Plexus

Color: Yellow

Location: Upper abdomen

Emotional Meaning: Confidence including self-worth and self-esteem. If you have relied on will power with dieting to lose weight its time to look at this powerful chakra to help empower you rather than disempowering you!

Exercise: Baby Scorpion Yoga Pose

 4: Heart Chakra

Color: Green

Location: Heart

Emotional Meaning: The ability to love yourself and others. Take a look at how you really cherish yourself. If you give, give, give, this can be so depleting, it may be time to allow yourself to receive! I love working on this one with my breast cancer clients and those with diabetes! So Powerful!

Exercise: Cow Pose

 5: Throat Chakra

Color: Blue

Location: Throat

Emotional Meaning: It’s all about speaking up about what’s right for you, setting boundaries, and saying NO when you mean no. Cue this John Mayer song. Message: Speak your truth. Those of you who have Thyroid health issues this is a BIG ONE! It may be subconscious and it is time to bring it to your consciousness!

Exercise: Legs Up The Wall Pose

 6: Third Eye Chakra

Color: Magenta

Location: Between the eyes

Emotional Meaning: Our ability to focus on the big picture of life. The crown chakra relates to intuition, wisdom, and imagination.  This is learning to listen to your spirit and take action on the quiet nudges you receive! I LOVE THOSE NUDGES!

Exercise: Nice easy gentle neck rolls

 7: Crown Chakra

Color: Purple

Location: Top of the head

Emotional Meaning: The crown chakra is the highest chakra of all 7. It relates to our spiritual connection.

Exercise: Dolphin Pose

How can I nourish the 2nd chakra?

The sacral chakra is about creation. Whether you’re making love to your partner or the canvas, you are creating. A connection, some art, or joy. There are countless ways to stimulate the 2nd chakra. Here are some ideas. Choose one that works for you (there’s HW at the end. Keep reading!):

  • Plant a garden of herbs, tomatoes, or flowers…tis the season!
  • Paint something for the fun of it
  • Take a stroll with your camera and capture the beauty around you
  • Do the Cobra yoga pose
  • Bake or cook something you’ve always want to try
  • Schedule a piano lesson and go
  • Take a dance class: salsa, ballroom, hip hop, swing, or pole dancing

You said this will enhance my love life. But, how?

Splattering paint, dancing, or weeding a garden are very playful acts. It opens up a childlike part of you. You feel whimsy and may smile a lot.

Redecorate your bedroom with patterns, colors, and art that light you up. When you feel lit up, your partner will follow you. It’s fun and fulfilling.

Being in a joyful space will activate a playful banter with your partner. Engage in a creative act together and see sparks reunite. Suggest a dance or cooking class for the next date night. Watch your relationship with yourself and partner blossom as it should in Spring.
